The challenge
Installing BOP hoists in tight spaces on a jack-up rig
Due to the structural design of the jackup rig, traditional BOP hoist installation from an open-ended beam was not possible. This created a significant operational challenge, as safe BOP handling is critical for drilling operations and overall rig safety.
The solution needed to:

The hoists are supplied through Altrad Sparrows Saudi Arabia, our in-country partner.
From the RFQ stage, J.D. Neuhaus’ engineering team worked directly with the jack-up rig operator and Altrad Sparrows to ensure the solution met all technical requirements. This early-stage collaboration enables a smooth and efficient installation process, minimizing downtime and operational risk.
The solution
Expandable hoist design for restricted installations
J.D. Neuhaus developed a expandable BOP handling system with a UH 125 hoist, specifically designed to allow installation from below the beam. This innovative design overcomes infrastructure limitations while maintaining the proven reliability and safety of J.D. Neuhaus hoists. The result is a robust, purpose-built and customized solution that enables safe and efficient BOP handling even in highly constrained rig environments.
