The path to standardisation: Why uniform components are crucial
Due to the large number of manufacturers in Boels’ product portfolio, most of the equipment was not compatible with each other. This could be attributed to differences in chain or hook sizes between the individual models. In order to be able to respond to individual customer requirements and enable continuous further development, it was and is very important for Boels to use the same parts in its products on an ongoing basis.
Purchasing equipment from different manufacturers resulted in high time and monetary costs for Boels. The complicated product design and low serviceability of the products played a major role in this.

What was your biggest concern before you decided on JDN hoists?
Price, different chain sizes and incompatibility with a competitor’s hoist series. As a rental company, we respond to our customers’ requirements individually and modify the 1-2t and 3-5t hoists by using different load and suspension hooks. Having worked with a competitor of JDN for 14 years, we had a good business relationship. This meant we always had load and suspension hooks, spare parts, chains and other components in stock.
What was the result?
Due to the introduction of a new model by the competitor, price was the only factor that prevented us from switching. However, quality and consistency were decisive factors in our decision to switch to JDN.
What was the biggest impact for you when you started using JDN hoists?
Not having to change the suspension hooks saves a lot of time. In addition, there are fewer parts on the outside of the hoist. JDN’s wide product portfolio exactly meets our requirements of 1, 2, 3, 6, 10 and 16 tonnes. The control levers had always caused us problems, but JDN products offer a much better solution.
Was there anything that surprised you?
After completing product training and commissioning the hoists for the first time, we were surprised by the control system (and control valves) and the interior design. Our mechanics can now maintain, repair, replace and test the hoists in almost half the time.
Would you recommend JDN to others? Why?
As a rental company, we don’t know exactly how our customers use the hoists. That’s why we need reliable, consistently functioning and easy-to-maintain pneumatic hoists. We are very satisfied with our cooperation so far.
