The project
55 Tons of Precision – Heavy-Duty Installation Underground
As a rental company for lifting technology, LGH supplies the equipment for the precise placement of heavy loads. A special project was the installation of a 55-ton particle accelerator (cyclotron).
The massive particle accelerator had to be placed in a specially designed underground bunker at the university hospital in Leuven, Belgium. LGH provided state-of-the-art lifting equipment from JDN to successfully carry out this complex and critical job.
The challenge
Lifting where no crane can reach
The weight of the 55-ton particle accelerator and the hard-to-reach location presented major challenges. The positioning had to be accurate to the centimeter. A further complication was that the underground bunker was not easily accessible with a crane.
The solution
Part by Part – Moving heavy loads safely
Through four large openings on the top of the bunker, space was created to lower the particle accelerator in individual parts.
Since lowering had to be accurate to the centimeter, there was only one solution: using the JDN PROFI 100Ti. With the help of the JDN PROFI, which was attached to a gantry, the particle accelerator could now be safely and precisely lowered into the bunker in four parts.
