Engineering reliable offshore lifting solution for complex FLNG project
Large Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facilities require highly reliable lifting equipment capable of operating safely in hazardous offshore environments. Every lifting solution must be engineered to integrate seamlessly into the overall facility while meeting demanding technical specifications, documentation requirements and project schedules.
For a major FLNG project, J.D. Neuhaus provided engineering expertise and project management to support the integration of a highly customized lifting solution for the turret and mooring system. Working closely with the customer’s engineering teams, JDN delivered a solution designed for long-term reliability, safe operation and efficient project execution under challenging offshore conditions.

The Challenge
Custom-engineered lifting equipment for one of the world’s largest floating facilities
Integrating lifting equipment into an FLNG turret and mooring system is a highly specialized engineering task. The project required a highly customized offshore crane solution capable of operating inside the confined space of an FLNG turret while providing reliable access across the entire circular structure. The lifting system had to support safe and efficient maintenance throughout the facility’s service life while complying with demanding offshore standards.
Key project challenges included:
- Integration into one of the world’s largest floating production facilities
- Highly customized offshore lifting equipment tailored to customer specifications
- Reliable operation under extreme offshore weather conditions
- Complete engineering, manufacturing and testing documentation
- Compliance with stringent offshore industry standards and project requirements
- On-time delivery within a complex international project schedule

The Project
Close engineering collaboration from concept to final delivery
From the early design phase through manufacturing and final documentation, J.D. Neuhaus worked as an engineering partner throughout the project lifecycle.
JDN’s engineering specialists collaborated closely with the customer’s technical teams to develop a customized lifting solution that met all functional and documentation requirements. At the same time, dedicated project management ensured efficient communication between all stakeholders, transparent reporting and reliable schedule control.
This collaborative approach minimized project risks while supporting smooth integration of the lifting equipment into the overall FLNG facility.
The Solution
Highly customized offshore crane system for reliable long-term performance
J.D. Neuhaus delivered a fully customized crane system engineered specifically for the FLNG turret and mooring application. Combining decades of experience in offshore lifting technology with comprehensive engineering services and dedicated project management, JDN supported every stage of the project – from detailed engineering and manufacturing to testing, documentation and final delivery.
The solution consisted of a highly customized offshore suspension crane system designed specifically for curved travel inside the FPSO turret. Individual crane units were installed within each circular turret segment, providing complete 360° coverage for maintenance and operational lifting tasks. The crane was equipped with a JDN EHZ 10 main hoist and an auxiliary JDN PROFI 1 TI air hoist in low minimum headroom (LMH) design, enabling efficient lifting operations within the extremely restricted installation space while ensuring maximum reliability in hazardous offshore environments.
The customized solution was designed to provide reliable operation in hazardous offshore environments, high equipment availability and long-term performance under extreme weather conditions. Structured project management ensured transparent communication, efficient coordination and on-time delivery throughout every project phase.
As a result, the project delivered measurable benefits, including:
- Highly customized offshore rack-and-pinion overhead crane system engineered for curved travel inside the FLNG turret
- Complete 360° turret coverage through multiple crane installations
- JDN EHZ 10 main hoist combined with a PROFI 1 TI air hoist in low minimum headroom (LMH) design
- Reliable long-term operation in demanding offshore environments
- Reduced total cost of ownership through durable and dependable equipment design
- Seamless integration into the customer’s overall engineering concept
- Complete technical documentation supporting project compliance
- On-time delivery through professional engineering and project management
