The challenge

Lifting Under Harsh Conditions: Robust Hoists for Seafood Processing

Processing seafood on board is always a challenge due to limited space. Existing solutions with electric chain hoists have repeatedly caused problems, especially with long-term use.

The customer therefore needed a new hoisting solution that could withstand continuous loads and had a low headroom. In addition, the seawater on board a ship creates extremely high humidity, and the hoists must be thoroughly cleaned daily—not easy conditions for a hoist.

The project

When time and space are tight – efficient project management

Upon the customer’s request, a tight schedule was immediately set. The installation on an already completed ship presents additional challenges for project management, as less space is available for installing the equipment.

Given the initial situation, close collaboration and communication among all partners were required—a point that was handled by the experienced JDN project team. Regular communication with the customer and the shipowner was indispensable, as was the corresponding support from our service team during the system’s installation.

The solution

Robust crane system for 24/7 operation on board

A crane system must be installed in the processing area aboard the crab processing vessel. Due to the ship’s movements and accelerations, a crane with a rack and pinion drive and very low headroom is used. Furthermore, due to the high humidity, only stainless steel components are utilized. The system is also designed for 24/7 operation.
