Bucher Emhart Glass – tailored lifting solution for the glass industry
Bucher Emhart Glass is the world’s leading international supplier of equipment, controls and parts to the glass industry. With broad-based expertise in glass container forming, glass conditioning, gob forming, ware handling, cold end inspection, refractory parts and quality assurance, the company’s machines and systems are established as standard products worldwide.
The customer’s requirements presented unique challenges for developing an optimal lifting solution. The task was to design a small, compact device with a compressed overall height to meet specific spatial and functional demands. This involved creating a fully integrated, tailored solution that aligns seamlessly with the customer’s operational needs.
An additional critical aspect of this lifting solution lies in its application within the glass production industry. The hot environment introduces particular complexities, necessitating specialized design considerations. In this context, precise and sensitive positioning of mould equipment is essential to guarantee both safety and operational efficiency. This careful attention to detail ensures that the lifting solution not only addresses environmental challenges but also supports the production process effectively.
Close collaboration between all stakeholders and departments, including R&D, project team, purchasing and sales, is crucial. Prototype testing was carried out as a joint project between Emhart Glass and JDN, which enabled effective, agile project work. Technical challenges were quickly resolved due to the close collaboration and the time to market was impressive – from initial discussion to first series delivery was only 10 months.
A stable supply chain was implemented to provide a customised solution ready for the market. The stable supply chain supports the Emhart production process and ensures a sustainable business through a long-term partnership with a close connection.
To meet the challenges, a JDN mini was specifically designed according to the customer’s requirements. This resulted in a compact assembly that eliminates the need for chain storage, ensuring efficient use of space. Special attention was given to tailoring the solution to the customer’s specific needs. Additionally, all relevant safety and risk management considerations were thoroughly incorporated into the design. This was done in close alignment with the customer’s specifications to ensure maximum safety and functionality.
